Famed aerobatic pilot Rob Holland identified as pilot in deadly Virginia Langley air force base crash

The award-winning stunt pilot died when his “experimental” plane crashed at a military base in Virginia.

Aerobatics pilot Rob Holland was preparing for the Air Force through this weekend’s Hampton Road Air Show when the custom MX aircraft MXS crashed just before noon while landing at Hampton’s joint base Langley Eustis.

He was the only person at the time.

“Rob was one of the most respected and inspiring aerobatic pilots in aviation history.” Post on his official Facebook page I confirm his death.

“Even if there was an absolutely impressive list of achievements in both the classic competitive aerobatics and the airshow world, Rob was the humblest with the singular goal of being better than yesterday.”

The Dutch small carbon fiber MX aircraft MXS is said to be “experimental” by the National Road Safety Commission, which is investigating the crash.

“Today we lost a friend of our Air Force family,” Commander Langley Eustos said in a statement.

“On behalf of the entire JBLE team, I would like to express my deep sympathy for the family and friends of this incredible aviator.”

The base where the crash occurred is made up of Army Fort Eustos and Langley Air Base near the southwest edge of Chesapeake Bay.

Hampton Roads Air Show Over Air Power is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the base. According to the Virginia Pilot.
