Jaguars GM James Gladstone’s rant may have tipped Travis Hunter hand

The contract to bring James Gladstone’s Travis Hunter to Jacksonville will be reviewed for years, not days.

However, the 34-year-old Jaguars general manager has scored some points for confidence after his speech introducing Hunter to Jacksonville Media.

“When I sit here, Travis Hunter is the Jacksonville Jaguar,” Gladstone told reporters. “And that really comes to mind for me, what really comes to mind, the right thing to do is think about the power of football sports and the game itself, and it’s the ability to ignite belief.

“Travis Hunter, he embodies belief. He’s a rare person, he’s a rare player. But he reminds me that the boundaries of football were built to be challenged.

“And we want him to be nothing more than himself, because when he’s there he’s increasing the space around him. From the football field to the football game itself. Travis Hunter is the person we’ve been hunting for.

The huge package Gladstone gave Cleveland then after Don Draper pitches is the 36th overall overall pick, including the No. 5 overall pick of this draft, No. 36 overall pick, and the first round pick for Jacksonville next year, and it seems reasonable.

Hunter, widely seen as the most talented player in the draft, is a unicorn because of his ability to play both wide receivers and cornerbacks at high levels.

Jaguar appears to play Hunter on both sides of the ball, but it’s not clear what his snap count will look like on defense.

“He’s a guy who deserves his first round draft pick as a wide receiver and a guy who deserves his first round draft pick as a corner,” Gladstone said. “While he has his rookie contract, I certainly look forward to each of those elements that will show his own way over the next few years.
