Aaron Glenn pleased Jets draftees represent ‘tough’ team brand

Build a brand.

That was the mission of new Jets coach Aaron Glenn in the team’s first NFL draft. At the end of the third day on Saturday, he said it felt like they had accomplished it.

“I think the first thing is that we really have someone who fits the brand we are supposed to do,” Glenn said. “It talked about what we even started with free agency in drafts. We’re very intentional about people who want to be part of this organization. We say the same thing when it comes to coaches. Everyone fits. They may look the same at one time. We may be different.

What is that brand?

“Tough, physically, violent, aggressive, resilient,” Glenn said. “If you continue to get those kinds of people, you’ll start to see the brand appear on the grass.”

It will be time to see if the Jets respond to Glenn’s wishes and landed a player who could turn the Jets from perennial losers into playoff teams.

The Jets landed seven players in the NFL draft.

On the third day, they drafted Georgia wide receiver Arian Smith and Alabama safe Malaki Moore in the fourth round, then two Miami players, linebacker Francisco Mauigore and Edge Rusher Tyler Baron in the fifth round.

These four players took part in the picks for the first two days: tackle armand member, tight end Mason Taylor and cornerback Azalie Thomas.

The player filmed on Saturday can provide some depth to the jet. Glenn has been injured last season as a Lions defensive coordinator, as an example of needing someone further down the depth chart.

“We need good quality depth for our team,” Glenn said. “We went through an injury bug last year. If something happens to any of our starters, these guys can play for us.”

The Jets first attacked on Saturday. Smith runs for 4.36 with a 40-yard dash and is able to take the lead off the defensive. The main criticism of him is that he spent 10 drops with the Bulldogs last year, but Glenn and general manager Darren Moogie said they feel the Jets are willing to improve in the field.

The Jets then made the first of two deals on Saturday, sending their fifth pick (145) and six-round pick (207) to the Eagles, taking Moore in exchange for a four-round pick (130).

Moore was Alabama’s four-year starter, initially in a “star” position, he was in the nickel corner and as safe last year. He was the Crimson Tide team captain.

He said former Alabama coach Nick Saban advised NFL teams to switch positions last year to show versatility.

“A physical and relentless player will compete in every game, as long as it requires every practice, every game,” Moore describes himself. “We’re a well-prepared and fearless competitor.”

Glenn said he spoke with Lions Safety Brian Branch, who played for Moore and Alabama before the draft.

“The first thing that came out of his mouth was ‘Dawg’,” Glenn said. “When you hear it, it’s thrilled to the player. Then, when you get the chance to see him on tape and see exactly how he works, he fits us into the “T.” I’m excited to have that player.

The Jets then won Maui Gore in the fifth round. He can become an instant contributor to a special team and back up Quincy Williams and Jamian Sherwood. Mougey made another move in the fifth round, trading his sixth pick (186) and his fifth pick in 2026 with the Ravens in exchange for his fifth pick (176) and his sixth round pick. They took the Baron at 176. Baron began his career in Tennessee before moving to Miami. I feel the Jets can develop as a pass rush under coaching.
