Top White House aide Stephen Miller on Thursday argued that Americans are likely to “pay more” for American-made dolls.
On Wednesday, President Trump said children could have fewer toys amid high tariffs on trading partners.
“You know, someone said, 'Oh, shelves, they're going to be open.' Well, maybe the kids will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls, and maybe two dolls would cost them a few dollars more than they normally would,” the president said.
During Thursday Press briefingNBC News' Peter Alexander has referenced Trump's comments from the previous day.
“He insisted on what almost every American consumer thinks they agree. For example, dolls from China that may not be constructed like dolls made in the United States, for example, dolls from China, have higher environmental and regulatory standards and are made of higher quality, Alexander.
Recent tariff policies from the Trump administration have rattled markets around the world, escalating economic unrest and building tense relationships with longtime American allies like Canada and the European Union.
General Motors (GM) said Thursday that Trump's tariffs could cut $5 billion from this year's profits.
In a letter to investors, GM CEO and Chairman Mary Bala said that, taking into account “the positive impact of this week's administration's lawsuit, the company expects interest and taxes to be expected this year, with a loss of between $5 billion and $5 billion from the president's tariffs.
