REPORT: Former Democrat Congresswoman Tried To Kill Herself Twice Ahead Of Election

Former Democrat Colorado Rep. Jadira Caraveo reportedly tried to take his life twice in 2024 while serving in Congress and campaigning for reelection.

The apparent suicide attempts in February and April included high-dose prescription drugs that urged emergency response to her home and Congressional offices. According to To the Colorado Sun. Both events had not been made public before, but it was revealed as Calaveo announced a new bid to Congress this year.

Emergency records reviewed by the outlet show that police responded to the Thornton residence in Calaveo on February 8, 2024, after reporting suicidal behavior with an aide called 911. Caraveo reportedly told the officer that she had taken 19 sleeping pills with alcohol, saying, “I'll put me to sleep for a while.” She was placed in a 72-hour mental health hold and transported to St. Anthony North Hospital for assessment.

In another incident on April 6, 2024, Caraveo reportedly took about 20 Lorazepam tablets. Lorazepam is a sedative used to treat anxiety. According to emergency responder audio obtained by the Colorado Sun, the call was treated as a potential overdose. Karavo was scheduled to meet with a Latino leader that morning and set up a campaign headquarters later that day. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance instead, and the campaign event proceeded without her.

Despite the severity of both episodes, Caraveo's office attempted to block the February incident from public disclosure with a suspended and assumed letter the day before the election, Coloradosan reported. After the defeat in November, the outlet suspended reporting until Calaveo reentered public life with a new campaign. Medical documents and responder reports contradict elements of that account as they confirmed with the outlet that the overdose was involved in Lorazepam. Sheriff Jane Craps, who approved Caraveo and appeared in the campaign ads, said that she attended the office that day with personal abilities but arrived on the scene after paramedics had already attended.

The North Glen Police Department and the Adams County Sheriff's Office have denied additional details of Sun's open records, citing public interest waiver and HIPAA. [Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act]despite the limited application of the law to law enforcement agencies. A licensed doctor, Caraveo, has not publicly addressed whether he took the medication before driving to the April campaign event.

Caraveo's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
