Trump jokes that he’s ‘in trouble’ with Melania while impersonating a trans athlete at the University of Alabama graduation speech.

President Trump made light of the controversy surrounding transgender athletes during a speech at the University of Alabama last Thursday night. He joked about being a trans athlete himself, bringing some humor into a hotly debated topic.

In his speech, he pointed out weightlifting as a specific example, playfully asking if he should imitate a particular weightlifter despite his wife’s admonitions. He lightly mentioned, “My beloved, I’m not the president,” hinting at some lighthearted tension at home due to his jokes.

As he engaged the crowd in the Coleman Coliseum, Trump mused about being in trouble with Melania for his antics, saying, “What’s hell, right?” He then created a humorous scenario involving a cisgender female weightlifter struggling to lift an extraordinarily light weight. Following this, he introduced a transitioned athlete who easily surpassed that lift, declaring a sort of playful exaggeration on the ease of the competition.

Trump humorously described the hypothetical competition, where cisgender women couldn’t manage the lift while the transitioned male athlete breezed through with impressive weight. He insisted competition conditions would allow such athletes to set new records at relatively low weights.

This lighthearted segment occurred alongside recent administrative actions where the Trump administration claimed the University of Pennsylvania violated federal laws by enabling trans athletes to participate in women’s sports. The school was accused of neglecting Title IX regulations that ensure equal opportunities for women and faced a ten-day ultimatum to resolve these issues or risk further actions from the DOJ.

In a statement, Craig Trainer, assistant civil rights secretary, emphasized support for female athletes and criticized the university for what he described as allegiance to political agendas that undermine women’s rights in sports, asserting that compliance with Title IX is essential to avoid jeopardizing federal funding.
