Grand Theft Auto VI postponed to May 2026 | Games

Rockstar Games has pushed back the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI to May 26, 2026. Originally slated for this fall, the uncertainty around a definitive date had started to raise some eyebrows within the gaming community.

The company announced this decision with a quick update on their website, expressing their apologies for the delay. They stated, “We sincerely regret that this has taken longer than expected. The excitement and anticipation around the upcoming Grand Theft Auto have truly humbled the entire team. We appreciate your continued support and patience as we work to complete the game.”

They added, “With every game we’ve launched, our aim has always been to exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI will be no different. Please know that we need this extra time to achieve the level of quality that you expect and deserve.”

It’s been more than ten years since the release of Grand Theft Auto V, which has sold 210 million copies, marking it as one of the best-selling video games ever, alongside Minecraft and Tetris. Interestingly, GTA V also faced multiple delays before its launch in September 2013.

Since the teaser video dropped in December 2023, not much has come out regarding GTA VI. The game is expected to feature an open-world crime narrative set in a version of Miami and its fictional hometown, Leonida. The plot is likely to center around seasoned criminal Lucia as she teams up with a male accomplice for an ambitious heist.

As for details surrounding the delays of GTA VI, there’s not much more to share. However, Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two, will be releasing its financial results on May 15, which will likely spark plenty of questions from journalists and shareholders alike.
