On Friday, two deputies from Pettis County, Missouri, were injured during a drug investigation when a suspect opened fire, hitting both deputies.
Officials say that just around 6 AM, the deputies from the Pettis County Sheriff's Office were preparing to execute a search warrant tied to the investigation when the shooting occurred, according to a release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Drugs and Crime Management Division.
In response, one deputy returned fire, although the suspect, unfortunately, wasn’t hit in the exchange.
Both deputies were transported to a local hospital and are reported to have life-threatening injuries.
The latest updates indicate that one deputy is still being treated, while the other has been released from the hospital.
The identity of the suspect, who has since been taken into custody and booked at the Pettis County Jail, remains unknown at this stage.
The Pettis County Sheriff’s Office chose not to comment when approached by Fox News Digital, and the Missouri Highway Patrol has yet to respond to inquiries on the matter.
