MLB update: Angels put three-time AL MVP Mike Trout on the injured list

The Los Angeles Angels have put their star outfielder, Mike Trout, on the 10-day injured list due to a bone bruise in his previously operated left knee. This decision came after Trout hurt himself during a game against the Seattle Mariners, which ended in a 9-3 loss for the Angels.

Trout, 33, had played briefly in right field following the injury but was taken out of the game before his next at-bat. “He has bone bruises, so we’re going to place him on the IL,” said Angels manager Ron Washington. “The details aren’t what matters right now; what’s important is that he needs to take some time off.” After the injury, Trout expressed hopes of returning for Thursday’s game, suggesting the pain was related to scar tissue. “When it happened, it felt… off,” he reflected. “But after some treatment, I think I should be feeling better.”

This season has been peculiar for Trout. While he’s hit nine home runs, that’s certainly impressive—ranking him second in the MLB—his batting average stands at a dismal .179, which contrasts sharply with his career average of .297. Additionally, his recent history is a concern; last season, he suffered a torn meniscus and played only 29 games, raising questions about his durability. In fact, over the past four seasons, he has played more than 82 games just once.

The Angels, currently at the bottom of the AL West with a record of 12-18, are striving to climb up the standings without any apparent hopes of a team turnaround in the near future. It’s a challenging situation for both the team and its fans.
