Democratic Representative Mikie Sherrill proposes three Trump impeachment efforts while campaigning for governor of New Jersey.

Rep. Mikie Sherrill recently suggested that President Trump’s potential third term might be the only way for Democrats to effectively counter Republican moves after the upcoming mid-term elections in 2026. Speaking to supporters at the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company Station in Manchester Township, she emphasized the need for a serious challenge, remarking, “I think you have to test yourself. It’s not just about having a tough fight.”

She shared a personal anecdote, recalling her initial reactions to Trump as president and seemingly contemplating the implications for her own district. An audience member humorously responded with a suggestion to “try again,” prompting laughter and a lighthearted acknowledgment from Sherrill about perhaps needing to “go for a triple line.”

In a more assertive tone, she called on Democrats to galvanize public demonstrations, echoing thoughts expressed by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker during a recent Democratic event. Pritzker pointed out that Republicans have become too comfortable and need to feel opposition from the ground up.

Meanwhile, Rep. Sri Taneder from Michigan introduced several articles critiquing Trump for his handling of an MS-13 gang member’s return to the U.S. Sherrill, known for her competitive stance in New Jersey politics, is currently facing off against Rep. Josh Gottheimer and several other notable figures in the Democratic primary race.

Recent polling shows Sherrill leading with 25% support among Garden State voters, while Gottheimer trails at 15%. Other candidates like Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka have also gathered attention, but Sherrill appears to be in a strong position as the primary approaches on June 10.

With a background as a former Navy pilot and federal prosecutor, Sherrill aims to steer her state toward a progressive agenda, focusing on critical issues like healthcare, groceries, and childcare affordability. She insists that constituents feel under siege by Trump’s administration, reaffirming their pride in the nation.

In her recent speeches, she highlighted the need for blue states to rally against Trump’s policies. Amidst comments about the events of January 6th, she framed the challenges ahead as a fight against federal overreach, promising to defend her state’s electoral integrity.

Requests for comments from her campaign team went unanswered as the election nears.
