A stranger was jumping on the back of a parked SUV in Brooklyn on Friday morning, where a woman was rushing with her 2-year-old son inside.

The 32-year-old mother called 911, explaining that she had left the Nissan Pathfinder running with her child while she quickly went into a deli on Sutter Avenue, near Van Cinderen Avenue in Brownsville.

While she was inside, a 34-year-old man named Maurice Stevens got behind the wheel and took off with the toddler, according to police accounts.

Maurice Stevens reportedly jumped into the unattended Nissan Pathfinder and drove away with the two-year-old still inside. Google

From Brooklyn Heights, Stevens has been charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, second-degree kidnapping, criminal possession of stolen property, and endangering the welfare of a child. Notably, he had been arrested in midtown Manhattan earlier this year for possession of a controlled substance, authorities indicated.
