NFL great John Elway seeks legal representation from a lawyer known for assisting troubled athletes following a fatal golf cart accident.

John Elway, the legendary Broncos quarterback, has engaged an attorney from Denver after a tragic golf cart accident in California.

This past Saturday night, Elway’s long-time friend and agent, Jeffrey Sperbeck, 62, fell off the back of a golf cart at the Madison Club in La Quinta.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, they were informed about the incident two days later and have initiated an investigation.

A spokesperson from Cal Fire noted that Sperbeck was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. He sustained serious injuries and, unfortunately, passed away the following Wednesday.

As of now, Elway has not faced any charges related to this incident.

Reports from TMZ indicate that Elway was operating the golf cart after an after-party when Sperbeck fell. Interestingly, he was reportedly the first to call 911.

Public records reveal that Elway owns a property just a short walk from the Madison Club.

Fox News Digital confirmed that he has hired Harvey Steinberg, an attorney based in Denver, who has represented various prominent athletes, including Broncos executives Matt Russell and Tom Heckert, as well as NBA player Ty Lawson, as noted by CBS News.

Steinberg previously managed to dismiss a road rage case involving Elvis Dumervil and helped reduce a suspension for a kicker at the Arizona Cardinals.

A Cal Fire spokesperson mentioned that the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office wasn’t asked to respond to the incident, citing its medical nature.

The sheriff’s office stated it would take necessary actions once the investigation is complete.

When asked why it took two days for news of the incident to surface, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office did not provide a response.

Elway released a heartfelt statement to ESPN on Wednesday, expressing his devastation over the loss of his best friend and agent, Jeff Sperbeck. “There are no words that truly express the deep sadness I feel in the sudden loss of someone that means so much to me,” he said.

On their part, Sperbeck’s family also issued a statement mourning his passing, calling him a beloved father, husband, and friend who will be deeply missed by many.

“As a family, we grieve this unimaginable loss,” they added, emphasizing their close relationships with Elway and others.
