London:
In a recent BBC interview, Prince Harry expressed a desire to mend his relationships with his family.
Having stepped back from royal duties five years ago, Harry now resides in California. His autobiography, “Spare,” released in 2023, included some troubling insights about his father, King Charles, and his brother, Prince William.
Harry had a chance to see his father in February last year during a brief meeting in London, shortly after Charles received a cancer diagnosis at 76.
On his relationship with his father
“I can’t predict how much longer my dad has. He refuses to engage with me due to security concerns, yet reconciliation is important.”
On family dynamics
“Naturally, my family never supported my writing endeavors. They’ve held me back in many ways. Still, I believe reconciliation is possible… there’s no reason to keep fighting. Life is valuable.”
“It would be nice to bring about that reconciliation. If they’re not ready now, that’s their choice.”
On visiting the UK
“At the moment, it’s nearly impossible to ensure safety for my family in the UK.”
“We simply can’t envision returning to England with our wife and kids right now.”
“I do miss parts of the UK. It’s quite sad that my children can’t experience certain things there.”
Regarding his safety trial
“My father holds significant control over these matters. Ultimately, resolution can come from him, not through interference, but by stepping back to let experts handle things.”
“There have been many disagreements, particularly between myself and various family members. This ongoing situation has been a significant issue for over five years regarding safety and life. It’s the last remaining concern.”
“Security has been wielded as a means of control. What troubles me most about the recent decision is that it establishes a precedent where security can control members of the royal family.”
On forgiveness
“This has been ongoing since 2016. I can forgive, but it’s taken a toll on my daily life, intentionally harming both me and my family.”
On avoiding the past
“I don’t want history to repeat itself.”
“During the disclosure process, some individuals have shown tendencies for history to repeat, which is rather disheartening.”
“I won’t name anyone right now, but I’m aware of all involved. I keep questioning whether they underwent the same risk management scrutiny that my family did.”
