Tristan Casas taken off the field on a stretcher in concerning injury incident with the Red Sox

The Red Sox are facing another setback on the injury front, with Triston Casas becoming the latest player to go down. The 25-year-old first baseman suffered an injury during the second inning of Friday’s game against the Twins at Fenway Park. As he attempted to field a ground ball, he fell and immediately clutched his left knee, prompting the team trainer to rush over.

After the game, manager Alex Cora informed reporters that Casas had sustained a “severe knee injury” and was still receiving care at a local Boston hospital. Before this incident, he had been struggling at the plate, hitting just .182 with a .580 OPS over 29 games.

Casas has had a rough time with injuries throughout his MLB career so far, missing significant playing time last year after tearing cartilage in his left thorax. His rookie season in 2023 was cut short due to shoulder inflammation, so this latest injury feels particularly unfortunate.

The situation with Casas isn’t an isolated case; the Red Sox have been dealing with a string of injuries as the season unfolds, though most have affected their pitching staff. Earlier that same day, the team announced starter Walker Buehler would be placed on the 15-day injured list due to shoulder inflammation, but Cora seems to think it’s not too serious. Buehler had been performing decently, holding a 4-1 record with a 4.28 ERA through his first six starts.

Adding to their woes, right-handed pitcher Kutter Crawford is also sidelined with a patellar tendon issue in his knee, meaning he hasn’t taken the field this year. It’s a challenging start for the Red Sox, and the impact of these injuries is likely to be felt for some time.
