The largest crypto event in the world, Token2049, unfolded in Dubai at the Madinat Jumeria Resort from April 30 to May. More than 15,000 attendees from over 160 countries participated, and the lineup boasted over 200 speakers, including key figures from the industry, policymakers, and innovators.
The conference kicked off early, with a DJ spinning tracks before 9 AM. Attendees showcased a mix of styles, from astronaut costumes to outfits adorned with Bitcoin logos and bold sunglasses. It was quite a sight, really.
A highlight was the “Money Rain” event, where the promoter launched a confetti-filled bill into the air. Later, a dance party in the desert had some VIPs claiming to groove to the music while enjoying luxurious Armand de Brignac Champagne, which costs around $500.
The event organizers treated guests to complimentary glasses of champagne, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
For a bit of adventure, there was a zip line set up in the resort canal. Also, a camel sporting the Crypto Exchange logo was available for photos, making for a fun visual.
Afterward, a parade of flashy Lamborghinis and Ferraris whisked guests to an after-party at the Bohemia Beach Club in Palm Jumeirah. The organizers distributed memecoin-themed banknotes, and one lucky attendee won a private experience with a well-known Japanese entertainer.
Many cities are striving to become global cryptocurrency hubs—Malta calls itself Blockchain Island, Switzerland refers to itself as the Crypto Valley, and Miami has branded Miamicoin. Yet, it’s Dubai that’s capturing the spotlight, especially with major companies like Binance establishing offices there.
Investors are taking a keen interest in Dubai, attracted by low taxes and regulations tailored for the crypto industry. Emirates NBD Bank has rolled out a crypto trading service, and the DMCC has plans to build a new Crypto Tower by 2027.
