Renowned stylist and designer Philip Bullock aims to unite American clothing manufacturers amidst recent tariff challenges, seeking to revitalize the domestic fashion industry.
Bloch, who has a history as a creative style director for Donald Trump and has dressed his daughter Tiffany for her inauguration, along with styling Melania Trump and having a longstanding connection with Ivanka Trump, points out that producing fashion in the US comes at a higher cost.
He believes that “smart factories” in the country can compete effectively, enabling high-quality production with less effort. However, he acknowledges that establishing these factories requires significant investment and time, estimating a timeline of four to seven years.
Bloch expressed frustration about the current state of resources, stating, “We can’t even get zippers or labels made in this country. It’s all from overseas.” He lamented that America has effectively abandoned its fashion industry, falling behind countries like Italy, France, the UK, and Japan, particularly outside the realm of streetwear.
A coalition, which includes Bloch and various behind-the-scenes fashion manufacturers such as Parkdale Mills Yarn Manufacturer and Stars and Manufacturing Group, is currently engaging with government officials, including the president, to garner support for their cause.
“Trump speaks the language of money and business. He loves to be a negotiator. We are ready to negotiate!” he added.
According to Bloch, restoring American manufacturing would not only revitalize factories but also create jobs in retail and fashion houses.
