On Sunday, President Donald Trump addressed speculation regarding his potential pursuit of a third term in the White House, which is constitutionally prohibited. In an interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” he reassured host Kristen Welker that he has no intentions of running for another term.
When asked about the third term, Trump expressed, “I want so many people to do that.” He further stated, “That’s something you’re not allowed to do as far as I know. I don’t know if that’s the constitution or not. But this is not what I’m trying to do.”
Welker then inquired about who he sees as a possible successor in the Maga movement after his presidency, to which Trump mentioned Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. “There are a lot of great things,” he said about his political allies, indicating a sense of unity but also hinting that someone might be deemed the VP.
Moving on, discussions turned to the topic of illegal immigration. Trump reiterated that he has no plans to lift the emergency declaration on immigration, emphasizing, “There’s an emergency. There’s a massive emergency overall.”
Despite facing legal hurdles, the White House’s deportation program claims that illegal border crossings have decreased by approximately 96% compared to the era of President Joe Biden. “The border is no longer an emergency,” Trump added, noting, “For now, the big emergency is that there are thousands of people we want to take out and there are judges that everyone wants to go to court.”
As of last week, the White House confirmed that there have been 139,000 deportations since his appointment.
