A small plane tragically crashed into a backyard in a residential neighborhood of Southern California, resulting in the deaths of two people on board and causing damage to the home.
The Ventura County Fire Department reported that firefighters responded Saturday afternoon to a collision involving a single-engine aircraft that hit two houses in Simi Valley, located in northwest Los Angeles.
Authorities confirmed that there were two passengers in the aircraft, both of whom suffered fatal injuries during the incident, as stated by the county fire department on X.
At the time of the crash, both homes were occupied, but fortunately, no injuries to residents were reported, according to the fire department.
Images and videos shared by the department depicted firefighters on the roof, where holes were visible, revealing fallen fences and walls, and even a tree that had plummeted.
The Simi Valley Police Department noted that the plane was found “in the backyard of the residence.”
Police informed CBS News that there were pilots, passengers, and even dogs aboard when the aircraft went down around 2 p.m.
As per CBS, the Federal Aviation Administration identified the plane as an RV-10, which had taken off from William J. Fox Airfield in Los Angeles County, aiming for Camarillo Airport in the nearby Ventura County.
This incident echoes a similar crash in January involving a van RV-10, a small four-seat plane, which went down near Fullerton Municipal Airport southeast of Los Angeles, claiming at least two lives and injuring 18 individuals.
