A woman died following injuries sustained in a car incident that involved four people across two separate crashes in Rochdale on Saturday.

She was airlifted to a hospital after being struck on Whitworth Road, but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries, as confirmed by Manchester police.

Additionally, three pedestrians, including a child, were also hit by vehicles on Woodgate Avenue, located about two miles away. Thankfully, all three only sustained minor injuries and were soon discharged from the hospital.

A 49-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder. Authorities indicated that the crash, which happened around 2:30 PM, is not being treated as related to terrorism.

GMP Assistant Constable John Webster expressed condolences, stating, “Our thoughts are with the families of the victims who tragically lost their lives in this incident. One individual’s actions have significantly affected the community of Rochdale.”

In response to online speculation regarding the driver’s identity, Webster clarified, “The suspect is a white male currently in custody. Further details cannot be released at this time.”

He also noted that recent counterterrorism efforts and arrests in Rochdale were unrelated to this event.

Webster mentioned the confusion surrounding the incident and thanked the community for their cooperation as the investigation unfolds. He stressed the importance of community solidarity during such difficult times, particularly for the families and friends impacted by this tragedy.
