A Philadelphia sports bar made headlines over the weekend when a waitress displayed a sign reading “FK The Jews.”
The video was uploaded by Mo Khan, showing numerous patrons enjoying themselves and seemingly unfazed by the sign.
An advocacy group against anti-Semitism brought the incident to light on social media.
Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, expressed his outrage. “I was shaking. I’ve been angry for the past couple of hours,” he said in a video where he referred to the situation as an emergency. “I’m determined to make it my mission to address this.”
Portnoy mentioned he had been actively trying to identify those responsible for the anti-Semitic display. “Do you really think I’m going to tolerate this at my establishment?” he questioned. “I’m not just sitting back.”
In a conversation with one of the waitresses, he described her as a “total idiot,” while another individual identified as Mike Wade, whose Instagram was linked in the video, was not present at the bar.
Portnoy elaborated on his feelings, suggesting his shock brought him to near tears and that he was committed to addressing the issue head-on. “I can’t believe someone would do this at my bar,” he asked, clearly upset.
He mentioned hearing that those involved were planning to find a way to “make it right.” “I’m trying to manage the situation, but I’m on top of it,” he added.
Portnoy also stated that two of the bartenders involved had been fired. “I spoke to Mo Khan and gave his team a chance to address the situation,” he explained. Following this, Khan deleted her Instagram account.
Concerns over rising anti-Semitism have been prominent since the October 7 attacks against Israeli Jews, with recent reports indicating a significant spike in incidents linked to the conflict.
