Imran Khan’s Party Will Not Attend Government Briefing About India-Pakistan Tensions

Imran Khan to Skip Government Briefings on Pakistan-India Relations

Islamabad: Imran Khan, the former prime minister and leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), recently announced he will not participate in key government briefings regarding the ongoing situation with India. This decision was made public through an official statement from the party’s political committee.

PTI asserted that their involvement in such briefings was unnecessary, claiming these meetings lack genuine efforts to form a national consensus and that key figures like Khan are not invited to participate. They stressed the party’s longstanding condemnation of terrorism, reiterating Khan’s denouncement of such acts in a message sent from prison. Khan highlighted the need for national unity and stability.

The party emphasized Khan’s clear stance and the courage it took to promote unity for the nation, reflecting the attitude expected from a national leader. PTI called on the government to arrange an All-Party Conference (APC) to facilitate trust and a joint course of action among national parties.

Unfortunately, according to the PTI, the government failed to seize this opportunity; the APC has yet to meet, and briefings provided have been unilaterally conducted by government officials. They also declared their commitment to protecting the nation from external threats.

Earlier reports indicated that Attaullah Tarar and Army spokesperson Lt. Ahmed Sharif were scheduled to provide briefings to leaders of various political parties regarding the current national security landscape and rising tensions with India. Tensions have escalated following recent terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, marking the deadliest incident in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack.
