Trump criticizes leading Democrats on the latest ‘Meet the Press’

Former President Donald Trump had an amusing moment on Sunday as he weighed in on the leadership of the Democratic Party, similar to former President Joe Biden. During an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” when host Kristen Welker asked him about possible successors to lead the MAGA movement after his potential second term, Trump offered a couple of names. He mentioned Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio but seemed to struggle when it came to Democrats.

“You can’t name Democrats,” Trump remarked, poking fun at them for seemingly being lost about their own future. He specifically criticized Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett, whom he dismissed as “definitely a person with a low IQ,” questioning how she could be seen as a representative of the party’s future.

Crockett garnered attention as a potential Democratic leader through her sharp comments against Trump and his supporters since he began his second term. Yet, Trump could think of no other noteworthy figures aside from Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt), who he mentioned, arguing that Biden had tarnished the image of older leadership.

Trump said, somewhat uncharacteristically, “I know incredibly sharp people, and they’re older than 87,” while referring to Sanders. He maintained that although Sanders could be misguided, he remained mentally agile. In contrast, Trump suggested that Biden represents the most significant detriment to the perception of elderly leadership.

Despite his criticisms, Trump expressed a certain sympathy for the Democrats, indicating a desire for a robust opposition in the political landscape.

“I don’t know what they’re going to do,” Trump admitted, expressing his support for a two-party system, highlighting that challenges keep political discourse vigorous and engaging.

Fox News Digital reached out to Crockett, Sanders, and Biden for their thoughts. As the political scene evolves, several Democrats are emerging as potential contenders for the 2028 presidential election, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, and New York State Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
