Senate Democrats caution that Mike Waltz will face a challenging confirmation hearing for his position at the UN.

Senate Democrats are indicating that Mike Waltz might struggle during his confirmation hearings for the position of UN ambassador.

Senator Tammy Duckworth from Illinois expressed her concerns, stating, “It would be a brutal hearing. Joining this signal chain shows he is essentially unqualified for the role.” She also criticized Waltz’s performance in his current role, suggesting that promoting someone who has not succeeded is not what the country needs at the UN.

“I anticipate a very challenging confirmation hearing,” remarked Virginia Senator Mark Warner, adding that tough questions will come not only from Democrats but also from Republican senators.

The White House hasn’t responded yet regarding inquiries about Waltz’s nomination. He is under scrutiny following reports about a group chat set up by his team to discuss a military strike against Houthis earlier this year.

President Trump has announced plans to appoint a new national security advisor in about six months, clarifying that Waltz did not resign but was moved from his previous position to potentially become the UN ambassador.

Democrats seem eager to use Waltz’s nomination as a platform to voice grievances about the Trump administration’s foreign policy, especially regarding Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The timing for the Senate vote on Waltz’s confirmation remains uncertain, but it appears that his nomination is a priority for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
