Lisa Leslie Talks Up Caitlin Clark’s Impact in the WNBA

WNBA icon Lisa Leslie has lauded Caitlin Clark’s influence as she prepares for her second season with the Indiana Fever. Leslie, a former superstar of the Los Angeles Sparks, highlighted Clark’s performance and the excitement surrounding her debut in the league.

Speaking with a sports outlet, Leslie discussed the Fever’s prospects for the upcoming WNBA Championship, emphasizing the new coach and the additions of veteran players during the offseason.

“Caitlin Clark has made quite a splash in the WNBA,” Leslie remarked. “It’s impressive how she transitioned from college to the professional level and made such a significant impact right away. I couldn’t help but feel proud of her.”

Leslie noted that the Fever’s roster now looks promising, having brought in players like Sidney Colson, Sophie Cunningham, and Dewanna Bonner, along with reappointing Stephanie White as head coach.

However, Leslie also acknowledged that heightened expectations can bring about pressure. “When I look at Caitlin, especially in her sophomore year, she seems more skilled and had the chance to catch her breath. But with new players and coaches, it’s a challenge to build that chemistry,” she added.

During a recent preseason matchup against the Brazilian national team, Clark really shone. For the Fever, it marked a significant moment, indicating their evolving strength on the court.

Leslie continued, “The All-Star Game will be in Indiana, and everything feels lined up. Caitlin seems to be finding her rhythm with her teammates, even if she didn’t make the U.S. women’s national basketball team for the upcoming Paris Olympics. There’s something about this break that seems to have worked in her favor.”

Last season, the Fever made their first playoff appearance since 2016. They managed to finish with a 20-20 record, aided by key performers like Kelsey Mitchell and Aliya Boston, among others. It’s clear that the team is on an upward trajectory.

Indiana Fever is set to begin their 2025 season facing the Chicago Sky on May 17th.
