Portnoy Responds to Offensive Sign Incident
Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, expressed his outrage in a passionate address on Sunday after two individuals reportedly displayed a sign reading “Fuck Jews” at a Philadelphia bar he owns.
In a three-minute video posted to X, a visibly upset Portnoy shared, “I was shaking. I was so mad for the last two hours.” He described the suspects as two twenty-year-olds who had placed an order at Barber Stool Samson Street, which typically includes a high-end bottle of liquor.
Emergency Press Conference – Last night there was a “Fuck Jews” sign at a bar in Philadelphia. I’m shaking I’m so angry.
Portnoy made it clear that he intends to take action, stating, “I’m going to make my life a mission to ruin these people.” However, he later reassessed his initial approach. Instead of publicly naming those responsible, he chose to send them on an educational visit to Auschwitz, a decision he detailed in a follow-up tweet.
“It could be used as an educational moment rather than ruining the life of a 20-year-old,” he wrote. Portnoy mentioned that he had identified the offenders and spoken with them and their families. He noted that representatives from all political parties had agreed to send the young individuals to learn about the Holocaust, specifically at the infamous site where over 1 million Jews were killed during World War II.
“We send these kids to Auschwitz. They’re going to tour German concentration camps and hopefully learn something,” he stated, emphasizing his belief that this opportunity could spark reflection rather than condemnation.
