Devin Bush, a former Big Ten defensive player of the year and a Top 10 NFL Draft pick, was arrested on Sunday in Cleveland on two charges linked to an incident involving his girlfriend’s mobile phone.
As reported by TMZ, court documents indicate that Bush was taken into custody in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, facing charges of simple assault and harassment.
His girlfriend allegedly began filming the dispute and attempted to call for help once she realized the situation was escalating.
According to her statement to the officers, she had marks on her body and reported, “I’m trying to call you from the fight with Bush.”
Bush disputed any physical violence but acknowledged breaking her phone during the altercation.
He is due in court for a preliminary hearing on May 20th, although further specifics regarding the allegations have not been released.
The Cleveland Browns are aware of the situation and are currently looking into the details surrounding the incident.
At just 26, Bush had an impressive college career at Michigan, where he was a standout linebacker. The Pittsburgh Steelers selected him with the 10th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
During his time with the Wolverines, he tallied over 100 tackles in his sophomore year, eventually earning All-American honors and the 2018 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year title.
In the NFL, Bush played four seasons with the Steelers, starting 15 games and ranking third in the defensive rookie of the year race, accumulating 109 tackles, two interceptions, and four fumble recoveries.
However, his second season was marred by an ACL tear after just five games, affecting his performance significantly. Following his tenure in Pittsburgh, he briefly joined the Seahawks, starting three games and recording 76 tackles last season.
