On Monday, the Baltimore Ravens revealed they will part ways with their long-time place kicker, Justin Tucker.
The general manager described this decision as strictly based on football considerations, yet it coincides with ongoing investigations in the NFL regarding various fraud accusations linked to massage therapists.
“Making decisions in football is often challenging,” he remarked. “This is just one case of that.”
He further expressed gratitude for Tucker’s extensive contributions to the Ravens, wishing him and his family well as they move forward.
The decision allows the team to manage their salary cap effectively, spreading out the cap hit over more than two years, given that Tucker held the record for the largest cap hit by a kicker in NFL history. His $4.2 million salary for 2025 was not guaranteed. Nevertheless, Tucker had remarkable performances mid-season, leading to a playoff appearance for the team.
These fraud allegations have cast a cloud over Tucker as he enters the offseason, with claims of misconduct involving 16 massage therapists occurring between 2012 and 2016.
The potential for the Ravens to release the iconic kicker was underscored during this year’s draft when the team selected kicker Tyler Loop from Arizona in the sixth round.
Tucker has consistently denied any wrongdoing regarding the allegations.
