At the 2025 Met Gala, several celebrities seemed to embrace a sense of adventure by defying Anna Wintour’s strict rules against phones and social media. It was quite the scene on Monday, with stars like Megan Thee Stallion, Halle Bailey, and Questlove taking out their phones amidst the glamour.
Wintour is known for her exacting standards at this prestigious event, but it looks like some attendees saw her guidelines as more of a suggestion. Social media buzzed with pictures from the inside of the extravagant gathering.

Megan Thee Stallion, in particular, shared clips where she boldly mentioned that guests “should have our phones.” She acknowledged the rule-breaking in a light-hearted way, saying, “We know we shouldn’t be doing this, but….” The Grammy winner posted videos enjoying tasty bites alongside fellow rapper Douchee and WNBA star Angel Reese.
One video captured “Hottie Cam at the Met Gala,” showcasing her fun mood. In another, Cynthia Erivo blew a kiss while the camera panned to Angela Bassett in a playful selfie moment. Megan continued filming, catching glimpses of Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o and tennis champion Serena Williams, humorously noting, “I let my phone sneak in.”

Halle Bailey also jumped in for a selfie with Sidney Sweeney and another singer. Fashion designer Michael Kors, who crafted outfits worn by Megan and others, made a brief appearance in her clips.
Meanwhile, singer Tyra snapped a selfie with Shakira, promptly sharing it with her 11.2 million followers on Instagram. Questlove, feeling daring, took out his phone as well. He tried to be discreet about it, gathering famous friends like co-chairs Colman Domingo and Lewis Hamilton for a quick selfie in the restroom.

Alongside them for the selfie were other well-known faces like Tracee Ellis Ross, Evan Ross, and Quinta Brunson. Interestingly, singer Sabrina Carpenter was spotted in the background engaging with former late-night host James Corden during one of Questlove’s videos.
Wintour, who has managed the Met Gala since 1995, is notorious for advising guests against revealing too much from the event. She emphasizes that attendees should follow the no-phones and no-social-media policy. However, it’s unclear what consequences these rule-breaking stars might face, although rumors suggest they could be at risk of not receiving invitations in the future.
