Enforce federal law, dismiss liberal government’s sanctuary policy, blue state representative informs sheriffs

Exclusive – Representative Mary Miller from Illinois is calling on local sheriffs to defy Governor JB Pritzker’s Democratic administration and the state’s sanctuary laws by supporting federal immigration policies. She argues that these sanctuary laws have turned Lincoln’s area into a haven for crime and drug-related issues. Miller is pushing for sheriffs to take immediate action, disregarding what she perceives as Pritzker’s attempts to sidestep President Trump’s immigration efforts, and instead advocate for cooperation with U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE) for deportation processes.

This stance represents a significant pushback against the Trump administration’s approach to illegal immigration. Back in 2017, the Illinois Democratic Congress enacted the Trust Act, which limited local law enforcement’s collaboration with ICE and prohibited immigration law enforcement cooperation.

Pritzker, who is seen as a potential presidential candidate in 2028, continues to challenge the Trump administration, labeling Trump as “authoritarian” and promoting protests to interrupt the president’s initiatives, asserting that Republicans shouldn’t enjoy a moment of calm.

Furthermore, the governor has vowed to resist the federal immigration agenda, claiming that Trump and border official Tom Homan pose a threat to the public. ICE has indicated that allowing potentially dangerous individuals to roam freely undermines both state and local policies that limit law enforcement’s interaction with federal agents.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) under Trump has initiated legal actions against Pritzker, along with other Chicago officials, for not cooperating with ICE regarding detainees. The DOJ contends that if a detainee is released from non-federal facilities without notification, ICE must investigate and act to re-detain the individual.

While police stations are generally operated by local city officials, sheriffs often have greater leeway to enforce laws, as they are elected by the communities they serve and are typically less influenced by political pressures.

Consequently, Miller is urging sheriffs across Illinois to oppose Pritzker and state authorities while upholding immigration laws. “I call on all local Illinois sheriffs to reject these dangerous directives and collaborate with ICE to support President Trump’s deportation initiatives,” she expressed.

She criticized Pritzker’s sanctuary policy for allegedly turning Illinois into a battleground for crime and drug issues as a result of accommodating illegal residents. His father, whose son died from fentanyl, is warning that this situation “could happen to anyone” amid the state’s crisis.

“Our community is overwhelmed; innocent individuals are suffering violence, and Americans are losing their lives senselessly,” Miller stated. “These outcomes highlight the dire ramifications of his poor leadership.”

“We need to take action now to prevent further tragedies,” she urged.

Pritzker’s office did not provide an immediate response regarding Miller’s statements.
