The PGA Tour is buzzing after Scotty Scheffler’s first victory of the season last week. It’s an exciting time for golf.
However, Scheffler won’t be participating in this week’s event. Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, and Xander Schauffele will be competing, bringing significant recognition to the tournament, including Thomas, who recently won the RBC Heritage, and McIlroy, who is the reigning Monarch PGA Champion along with Schauffele.
Schauffele will host the Quazlo Horoza Trust Championship next week, but he won’t be in the spotlight this time. The annual Truist venue, known for hosting the PGA Championship, needed a replacement this year, and the Philadelphia Cricket Club has stepped in.
Founded in 1854, the Philadelphia Cricket Club holds the distinction of being the oldest private club in the U.S. and is hosting what has become a significant tournament.
Interestingly, the PGA Tour hasn’t returned to Philadelphia since the 2018 BMW Championship, where Keegan Bradley, captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup team, took home the win. This season has spotlighted various regions in the sport, marking the return of the PGA Tour to Philadelphia, following an LPGA event in Utah, which was held for the first time in over six decades.
It will be interesting to see who takes the lead in Philadelphia this week.
