Joe Scarborough Acknowledges That Democrats Have Made Themselves Seem ‘Elitist’ Over More Than Thirty Years

Scarborough Highlights Democrats’ Image Challenges

On Tuesday, MSNBC host Joe Scarborough pointed out that Democrats risk being seen as “elitists,” which could aid Republicans in portraying them as out of touch.

A CNN poll from March indicated a significant decline in Democratic favorability, dropping to 29%. Another survey released on April 27 showed only 27% approval among voters for the party’s leadership. Scarborough remarked that, despite being a billionaire, Trump seems to resonate more with blue-collar workers than the Democrats do.

“It’s quite ironic,” Scarborough said, “that you have all these Ivy League billionaires. I think Americans relate more to their lifestyle than to that of a successful Democrat. This really ties back to personality.” He recounted how, during focus groups in 2016, a working-class woman supporting Trump remarked, ‘Because he’s one of us.’

Trump has garnered significant backing from electronic and telephone surveys among the 2024 International Teamsters of Teamsters Rank and File Members, yet the Union is undecided in its support for the upcoming presidential election.

Scarborough noted, “Republicans excel at making connections, regardless of their background. Democrats are struggling with this aspect currently.” He referenced Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who are currently touring the country on an “anti-oligarch” campaign aimed at President Trump and senior advisor Elon Musk.
