Andrew Cuomo plans to use an independent ‘Fight and Deliver’ ballot line if he loses the NYC Democratic primary.

Cuomo’s Independent Voting Line for Mayoral Election

Andrew Cuomo plans to establish a second independent “fight and delivery” voting line for the mayoral general election, regardless of whether he secures the Democratic primary nomination.

A campaign source described this strategy as “insurance.”

This alternative voting line aims to bolster Cuomo’s vote count if he wins the Democratic nomination, countering the votes that left-leaning rival Democrats, like Zohran Mamdani or Brad Lander from the Workers and Family Party, might capture.

Should Mamdani obtain the Democratic nomination, Cuomo might pursue the race as an independent contender, much like incumbent mayor Eric Adams is attempting.

“Alongside securing the Democratic nomination this November, my campaign will strive to build the largest coalition possible to achieve our mission,” Cuomo stated on Tuesday.

“We engage with those eager to support my candidacy, while also addressing those seeking alternative options—disillusioned Democrats and those wanting to broaden the party’s appeal to independents and Republicans,” the former governor added.

A campaign source remarked, “That’s a wise move.”

Supporters of Cuomo have suggested that Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa is likely to garner at least 30% of the vote, with Adams projected to receive around 10% as an independent candidate.
