Scripps and Anthem reach a contract extension after missing the January 1 deadline.

Scripps Health and Anthem Blue Cross Extend Agreement

SAN DIEGO – After months of negotiations, Scripps Health and Anthem Blue Cross have reached an agreement to extend their in-network contract. This deal comes just ahead of a January 1, 2025, deadline when many Scripps patients insured by Anthem would have been dropped from the network.

The new arrangement, confirmed on Tuesday, extends their previous agreement until September 30, 2026. Scripps expressed its intention to continue discussions regarding sustainable long-term contracts to ensure their patients can access services through the Anthem network.

Scripps noted that this extension makes it easier for most Anthem Blue Cross members to utilize their facilities. Patients will have access to Scripps hospitals, doctors, outpatient centers, and specialized services once more.

During the negotiation process, Scripps identified major concerns such as barriers to patient care, as well as the need for fair compensation for services rendered.

“The last four months have been tough for Anthem patients and healthcare providers, and we have worked diligently to secure this extension,” Scripps commented.

ABC 10News has reached out to Anthem for a statement regarding this contract extension, but a response is still pending.
