Josh Hart delivered precisely what the Knicks required in their Game 1 victory.

BOSTON – The Knicks hadn’t even settled into their second series against the Celtics when they found themselves relying heavily on Josh Hart’s key attributes.

Leading up to the series, it was noted how Hart served as a stabilizing force and confidence booster for the Knicks during tough moments.

This was especially critical against the defending champions, who were expected to put up strong challenges throughout the series.

In Game 1, the gravity of the situation became clear as the Celtics put together a 31-11 run in the second quarter.

The Knicks appeared to be on the verge of a breakdown, seemingly ready to resign themselves to a Game 2 defeat.

The Celtics were looking like the favorites here.

Yet, amid the turmoil, Hart stood out, giving it his all.

“We’ve been here before,” he reminded his teammates, reflecting on past challenges they had faced, especially against the Pistons in the first round.

Hart took charge on the court, infusing the team with energy. They responded, rallying from a 20-point deficit to secure a 108-105 overtime victory at TD Garden on Monday.

“For me, I believe we’ll always find a way to spark this team. It could be through shooting, defense, rebounds, or pushing the pace,” Hart shared on Tuesday. “We really aim to ignite something, particularly when we’re down by double digits. My job is to run around, create energy, and seek those moments that can change the game.”

Hart registered 14 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and two steals, including five of those rebounds on the offensive end.

Celtics coach Joe Matzula commented on Hart’s impact, noting how crucial his offensive rebounds were, giving the Knicks extra possessions, especially as the game tightened.

On the defensive side, Hart held the Celtics to 16-4 shooting and 1-12 from three-point range when guarding them, according to NBA statistics.

“That’s just who he is,” Jalen Brunson said after the game. “He’s always looking for ways to energize the group. His energy is contagious; it helps elevate our performance.”
