Leighton Meester speaks out about Michelle Trachtenberg’s ‘devastating’ death.

Leighton Meester is opening up about the “devastating” loss of her former co-star, Michelle Trachtenberg, for the first time.

In a recent interview, she reflected on Trachtenberg’s warmth and talent, stating, “She was wonderful, talented, and everyone loved her.” These comments came about two months after Trachtenberg’s passing.

At 39, Meester expressed her sadness for all who had known Trachtenberg during an interview with Flaunt Magazine.

She further reminisced about the legacy of their show, noting, “I know it’s still out there—somehow it lives on incredibly.”

Meester, known for her role as Blair Waldorf, and Trachtenberg, who portrayed Georgina Sparks, starred together on “Gossip Girl” from 2007 to 2012. Trachtenberg also reprised her role in the reboot that aired in 2021.

A month ago, it was revealed that Trachtenberg’s death was due to complications from diabetes. She was found unresponsive in her New York City apartment, having been discovered by her mother.

Various cast members from “Gossip Girl” shared emotional tributes on social media when the news broke. Ed Westwick, who played Chuck Bass, conveyed his sorrow with a simple message, while Blake Lively praised Trachtenberg’s “electricity” and described her as “powerful and loyal.” Taylor Momsen, who played Jenny Humphrey, shared her feelings of loss and gratitude for their friendship.

Interestingly, Meester hadn’t spoken publicly about Trachtenberg’s passing until this recent interview, which gave her the platform to express her feelings. In addition to discussing her late friend, she also touched on a personal challenge, explaining difficulties she and her husband, Adam Brody, faced after losing their home to a wildfire in Los Angeles in January.

Meester described the experience as a “roller coaster,” acknowledging that while there are moments of normalcy, there are also tougher times. “The best thing I can do is take it one step at a time,” she said, adding that she’s not alone in facing such challenges.

She and Brody have two children, and she emphasized that their family is what truly matters to her.
