During a recent session with the House Approval Committee, border guard Kristi Noem dismissed numerous complaints from Democrats on various occasions.
She strongly rebutted the Democratic stance, turning aside requests from Republican legislators for an influx of low-wage migrant workers for employers reluctant to adopt advanced technology.
Democrats, who have remained vocal, insisted they achieved a win through a widely circulated post from “Occupation Democrats.” They claimed:
In a hearing, Secretary Noem was harshly questioned about whether she had the authority to deport American citizens, causing a rift among Democrats.
At this point, perhaps it’s best to keep the “fascist Barbies” away from the cameras…
…
Reports indicate that under Trump’s deportation policies, American children—such as a four-year-old with cancer—have faced deportation to Honduras.
The discussion shifted direction.
Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-IL) read from prepared remarks when she addressed Noem.
“No, we’re not deporting our citizens,” Noem calmly asserted without consulting notes.
Underwood continued her reading:
The federal government lacks the authority under U.S. law to deport American citizens, so it’s reassuring to hear that you believe you don’t have that power. And, I think everyone watching today is aware of that.
“That’s not true,” Noem interjected, “It wasn’t a question,” as Underwood attempted to prevent her from speaking.
In fact, American citizens’ children have not typically undergone lengthy deportation processes. Nevertheless, some illegal immigrants have chosen to take their U.S.-born children back to their countries.
Rep. Veronica Escobar (DTX) also attempted to contend that children are being deported.
“We are not deporting U.S. citizens; the misleading media reports you’ve heard are simply not accurate,” Noem responded.
“I want to concentrate now on American citizens who have been deported. In truth, there are a few children—perhaps more—who have been affected,” Escobar stated in another inquiry. “Taking the child with us was a parental choice… It’s our policy to maintain family unity,” Noem replied calmly as Escobar sought to interject.
Noem also sidestepped Republican calls for an increased worker influx.
Many GOP members on the Budget Committee primarily focus on business interests, advocating minimal restrictions on migration. Some vigorously support expanding movement. In contrast, most Democrats often bring strong emotional and ideological perspectives to the issue, which can lead to significant policy negotiations against weaker GOP initiatives.
Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA), who owns several orchards, pressed Noem to facilitate more H-2A farm workers. “We cannot emphasize enough how vital the agricultural workforce is for producing food in this nation,” he commented.
“Immigrants can’t be subjected to the law differently; justice should be universal,” Noem replied. “Visa programs are a matter for ongoing discussion… and many of you,” she added, emphasizing Congress’s power to impose regulations on visa workers.
Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ) also urged for additional foreign workers, to which Noem responded.
The President believes there is a valuable workforce in the country that deserves opportunities… and we need to keep the door open for immigrants who wish to come legally.
“You’re doing an excellent job,” Ciscomani replied.
