The situation with the Steelers’ minority owners seems as perplexing as what’s going on with Aaron Rodgers.
During a recent appearance on CNBC, franchise part-owner Thomas Tull made a light-hearted remark about the enigmatic quarterback and his ongoing free agency. “I’m here to talk about AI. It’s a more complicated issue than artificial intelligence,” Tull noted.
The Steelers have shown interest in the 41-year-old Rodgers, who recently completed two seasons with the Jets, the former Super Bowl champions.
Rodgers visited the Steelers’ facility and met with team officials in late March, but he hasn’t yet decided on his playing future.
In April, he mentioned that personal issues had taken precedence over his football career. “I’m trying to be open to everything, but nothing is tied to a specific decision,” he shared on the “Pat McCuffy Show.”
After last month’s NFL Draft, Steelers owner Rooney II remarked during a radio interview that Rodgers “wants to come here,” expressing hope for a decision soon.
“We’re still receiving the same signals we’ve had recently,” Rooney relayed on Steelers Nation Radio. “He wants to come here, so I think we might hear something shortly.”
Currently, the Steelers’ quarterback options include veteran backup Mason Rudolph and newcomer Wil Howard from Ohio.
Pittsburgh finished last season at 10-7, with quarterbacks like Justin Fields and Russell Wilson leading their respective teams into the playoffs.
The franchise also made a trade, swapping sixth draft picks with the Cowboys and receiving a third and fifth round pick in the 2026 draft.
