Meghan Markle recently shared her experiences with Ayurveda during her pregnancies with Archie and Lilibet on her podcast, *Confessions of a Female Founder*. She highlighted the idea of treating food like medicine and discussed the benefits of mushrooms and adaptogens, noticing that some people may find her perspective unconventional. This particular episode was released on Archie’s sixth birthday and featured a guest appearance by Hannah Mendoza, the founder of Clevr Blends.
In the podcast, Markle expressed her enthusiasm for Ayurveda, which means “Life Knowledge” in Sanskrit and emphasizes achieving balance in the body. She noted the importance of considering food as a form of medicine and praised the advantages of using adaptogenic ingredients. That said, she also recognized that some might view her approach as “a little psychedelic and super wooooo,” as she described it.
“There are ingredients that have been part of our natural nutrition,” she explained. “These items somehow create a connection, whether they involve mushrooms or not, and it’s about understanding food as medicine.” She mentioned that when people hear the term mushrooms, they often dismiss it as being overly unconventional—perhaps suggesting a “hippie dippie” connotation. “There’s a foundation to all of this, but if you’re not accustomed to adaptogens, it can seem a bit out there,” she remarked.
Interestingly, Prince Harry discussed his encounters with psychedelics in his memoir, particularly referencing experiences in California involving magic mushrooms. The couple also took an alternative approach during Archie’s birth; they involved an Ayurvedic doctor who suggested using Sanskrit words in the delivery room and whispering loving words to the newborn. This belief stemmed from the idea that what is said in the first moments of life profoundly affects the child.
