Gretchen Wilson, the country music star known for her hits in the ’90s, recently made a comeback by winning Fox’s “Masked Singer.” After facing some health challenges, she stepped back from the limelight, but now she’s sharing her journey with fans.
In a conversation with Fox News Digital, Wilson reflected on her hiatus. “I got COVID early on. It hit me hard, leaving me with high blood pressure, shortness of breath, and asthma that I still deal with,” she stated, revealing the seriousness of her condition.
Health issues hadn’t just plagued her from COVID; she had an accident that kept her in a wheelchair for eight months. “There were a lot of things to manage,” she noted. Yet, after a long period, she feels like she’s found her footing again: “Now, I feel like I’m back,” she added.
Interestingly, Wilson admitted that sharing her life on social media is not her style. “I don’t really go on my phone. It’s just not me.” Competing in “Masked Singer” was a chance for her to test whether her musical talents remained intact. “When they asked me, it felt like the perfect opportunity to see what I’ve still got. It was tough, but very rewarding,” she revealed.
She emphasized that the experience proved she still had the ability to perform, saying, “This show showed me I can still do it, and I want to.” Back in the public eye, Wilson is now collaborating with notable figures like Taylor Sheridan, Blake Shelton, and Keith Urban.
Discussing her work with these artists, Wilson described Blake as “just having a good time all the time” and expressed admiration for Keith’s serious yet talented demeanor. “Every time I’m around him, I think, ‘Wow, he’s incredible,'” she reflected.
In closing, she expressed gratitude for the creative opportunities she has, noting that even though it’s challenging, it feels like a positive shift in her career. “I felt readjusted, and honestly, I’m just happy to be back,” Wilson said, capturing the essence of her journey back to music and performance.
