‘The Last of Us’ Features a Lesbian Character Saying, ‘I’m Going to Be a Dad’

HBO’s Season 2 of Our Last is causing quite a stir among viewers as it explores themes of survival in an apocalyptic world, intertwined with a narrative of revenge. A notable subplot involves a female lead who expresses her desire to be a father upon learning her bisexual girlfriend is pregnant with a mutual friend.

“So, we’re giving birth to babies? We’re Jesse,” Bella Ramsey’s character Ellie tells Isabela Merced’s character Dina in episode 4, reacting to the unexpected news. “We’re all giving birth to babies. Holy shit. I’ll be a dad.”

Fans have taken to social media to criticize the recent episode, with one user calling it “One of the worst episodes of television of all time.” Another voice added, “Is it too much to ask to remove this woke nonsense from entertainment?”

Some comments echoed frustration, with another user claiming, “Our Last Season 2 is the biggest dog shit I’ve ever seen.” Another user reflected on Hollywood’s trends, stating, “The mental illness of the awakened mind virus runs deep into Hollywood.”

Others also expressed confusion and disappointment: “Wtf am I watching?!?” and “Was this really #TheLastofUs?” One perplexed user highlighted a scene where Dina reveals multiple pregnancy tests while Ellie, in the midst of a revenge mission, declares she’ll “become a dad.”

In a notable conversation, Dina shares her discomfort about her mother’s comments denying her bisexuality, describing how it affected her life choices. “When I was little, I told my mom I liked boys and girls and she said, ‘No, you like boys,'” Merced’s character lamented.

This discussion occurs after one of the teenage characters manages to defeat a much stronger opponent, which some viewers found puzzling, prompting the question, “Why is everything so stupid?”

One user reminisced about enjoying the first season but felt let down by the direction the second season has taken, likening it to a “LGBT commercial.” Another user pointed out that in a real post-apocalyptic scenario, such themes wouldn’t carry weight, questioning why these narratives are made to feel so imperative.

Critics noted how the show strays from its original themes, stating, “They took great ideas and gave us a woke agenda.” Another remarked on the random introduction of “Pride Town,” citing that “episode 4 beats the head with propaganda.”

Frustration continued to surface among viewers, who criticized the significant deviation from the source material, a video game, by including narratives perceived as unrealistic. “It’s disappointing how they framed such a cool game and alienated the majority,” one remarked.

Before the season began, Merced was enthusiastic about the increase in LGBTQ+ content, stating that audiences would be pleased. She also praised the production team for involving “gay women” in editing scenes between her and Ramsey.
