The 10 most irresponsible fathers in Suffolk County and what the sheriff hopes for this Mother’s Day

Suffolk County has unveiled a list of ten fathers who have been avoiding their financial responsibilities towards their children and the mothers of those children.

One of the individuals featured on this “wall of shame” owes nearly $1.5 million to the mother of his child.

“We’re talking about significant amounts of money that could have gone to essentials like food, clothing, medical visits, or school supplies for our kids,” said Children’s Sheriff Errol Toulon Jr. during a press briefing outside the Yaphank Correctional Facility.

The timing of this announcement, just before Mother’s Day, was purposeful—it aimed to send a clear message to those men who are shirking their responsibilities.

“Often, when two-income households split, the mothers are left to manage everything alone—both financially and emotionally. Some men misuse the system to dodge responsibility,” he added.

The “wall of shame” displayed at the sheriff’s office showcases the names, images, and last known locations of these ten fathers.

The sheriff expressed that some of these men haven’t made any payments for years, despite court orders and the existence of arrest warrants against them.

Toulon highlighted that unpaid debts could lead to wage garnishment, seizure of assets, or even jail time for those fathers who think they can sidestep their obligations.

“It’s the children who bear the brunt of this—it’s not about punishing their ex-partners, but the kids who truly suffer,” Toulon remarked.

He is currently appealing to the public for assistance in holding these absent fathers accountable.

“Let’s honor the parents who show up every day this Mother’s Day and seek justice for those who disregard their responsibilities,” Toulon urged.

According to officials, the list of the top offenders includes:

  • Gustave Schotker – $422,584
