Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens eager for fresh start

George Pickens Joins the Dallas Cowboys

George Pickens has officially become a member of the Dallas Cowboys following a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers, confirmed on Thursday. The 24-year-old wide receiver shared his thoughts on a conference call, noting that he learned about the trade through social media, which, in a way, is how many fans found out.

Interestingly, fans used his reactions from the NFL draft to express their sentiments about the news. “When everyone else found out, I knew,” Pickens remarked, adding that he feels positive about his new environment, stating, “I like the vibe here. It feels good.” He also mentioned meeting several new players and that there’s a sense of optimism in the team.

Despite the speculation during the offseason, Pickens clarified that he didn’t request the trade, although some fans took notice when he stopped following the Steelers on Instagram. He had previously posted a picture with Tom Brady, which stirred discussions.

“This game is just as business as soccer,” he commented, emphasizing his desire to contribute to Dallas’s winning culture. Over the last three seasons, he had been one of Pittsburgh’s top receiving options, yet there have been moments where Steelers’ coach Mike Tomlin publicly addressed Pickens about issues involving sportsman-like conduct. Tomlin once pointed out, “You just have to grow up, man,” which highlighted the challenges Pickens faced in the spotlight.

Ultimately, Pickens appears to be reflecting on his past experiences. “I feel like everyone in the world is committed to growing up to improving,” he said, suggesting that this next chapter with the Cowboys is an opportunity for personal growth.
