Father takes 11-year-old daughter to commit a burglary and leaves her behind when the homeowner arrives, according to prosecutors.

A man is accused of involving his young daughter in a break-in at a Detroit residence while seemingly unaware of the potential consequences.

Andre Stephon-Curtis Broadenax, 29, is alleged to have stolen a vehicle in Dearborn on April 29, later arriving at a residential neighborhood about 15 minutes away.

Upon arrival, he reportedly forced his 11-year-old daughter to help him break into a home.

“The defendant compelled his daughter to assist in this unlawful entry,” stated the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

Things took a turn when the homeowner’s son unexpectedly walked in on them.

According to prosecutors, Broadenax fled the scene, abandoning both the stolen vehicle and his daughter.

Detroit police apprehended Broadenax shortly after his escape attempt, according to prosecutors.

David Bridges, a longtime resident of the area, shared his thoughts with WXYZ 7, noting how unusual this kind of incident is for their typically quiet neighborhood and condemning Broadenax’s actions.

“As a father of eight, I can’t fathom using my children in such a dangerous way,” he remarked.

Bridges also expressed concern for the daughter, reflecting on the dire situation her father put her in.

“It’s tragic; you could lose your own life and endanger your child’s future,” he added.

Broadenax now faces multiple charges, including first-degree home invasion and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. His next court date is scheduled for May 14th.
