Pope Leo XIV, Recently Elected, Stood Against Gender Theory

The newly elected Pope Leo XIV, formerly the bishop of Chiclayo in Peru, has expressed his opposition to gender theory.

As reported by the New York Times, the Holy Father has previously criticized a government initiative aimed at incorporating gender education in schools.

He remarked, “The promotion of gender ideology is confusing because we’re trying to create genders that don’t exist,” during an interview with local media.

This stance aligns with that of his predecessor, Pope Francis, who in 2024 labeled gender ideology as one of the most troubling ideologies of this era.

Pope Francis reiterated his opposition to gender theory, calling it “the ugly ideology of our time.” He emphasized that this perspective seeks to “erase humanity,” noting that men and women exist in a state of “fruitful tension.”

This commentary was made while addressing participants at the international symposium titled “Man Woman: Image of God,” held at the Vatican from March 1 to 2.

Pope Francis pointed out that it’s easy to overlook the basic truth about human nature, as modern culture often reduces individuals to mere needs. However, he asserted that men and women, created in God’s image, possess a longing for eternity and happiness that God has instilled in them, which they seek to fulfill through various pursuits.

The Pope also upheld traditional Catholic views regarding abortion.

In 2015, Prevost encouraged his followers at a life rally in Chiclayo, stating, “Always save human lives!” the report indicates.

Moreover, Prevost referenced a 2017 article from the Catholic News Agency in which Cardinal Dolan condemned abortion during a mass preceding a life rally in Washington, D.C.
