New music on the horizon

Second place on the list of harsh British accents goes to Brummy, and Scouse doesn’t quite make the cut. Esdeekid, a rapper from the bustling British rap underground, delivers a standout accent, illustrating how far the scene has come since the drill era kicked off.

His latest single, phantom, features lines like “Painted black like a phantom… the girl was young and illuminated, and I flocked handsomely.” It’s a vivid reflection of his style, almost as if he’s spitting words onto the pavement. “In Kush’s coma, fried, I’m a foodin’stoner.” The opener in LV sandals satisfies earworms, showcasing Merseyside’s musical essence in each verse.

“LV Sandals” marks Esdeekid’s most popular release yet, featuring fellow MCs Fakemink and Rico Ace. Together, they ride a distorted Lo-Fi beat with relentless energy. There’s also a connection to “Phantom” and a taste of what’s coming in 2024. The track Palace explores a unique drill/G-funk blend, marked by its quirky pronunciation and catchy hooks that stick. Barry evokes the feeling of strolling through a beachfront arcade.

Despite claiming good looks, Esdeekid often hides behind a Balaclava. Critics suggest he could be a bit more revealing with his lyrics. Yet, his lyrical delivery is quite unique, tapping into themes of passion, with mentions of the Defountains or quirky cocktails like Bayles mixed with Ketamine. It shows he’s definitely a free thinker.
