Columbia students informed about the October 7 attack by the Trump administration?

The Trump administration has taken a firm stance against Ivy League institutions, resulting in a significant clash. This ongoing issue, highlighted by the University of Pennsylvania’s Title IX problems and Harvard’s approach to anti-Semitism, has sparked considerable frustration.

On Thursday, May Mailman, a White House policy strategist, paused the investigation regarding claims made by Columbia University students in response to Hamas’ attack on October 7th.

In a recent “Blaze News: The Mandate” episode, Mailman discussed troubling developments and the current landscape of universities during Trump’s presidency.

“Columbia turned into a focal point for anti-Semitism around October 7th,” Mailman stated.

Indeed, Columbia was at the forefront of prominent pro-Palestinian protests from 2023 to 2024, with a significant event in April 2024 leading to the occupation of Hamilton Hall. This marked a pivotal moment in the broader movement.

Perhaps the Palestinian activist group at Columbia was privy to information that many others were not.

“By October 7, their group was essentially enthusiastic about the upcoming events. It’s almost as if they anticipated the attack before it occurred. That’s how deeply terrorism had manifested at Columbia,” he noted, adding that the protests turned violent enough for the NYPD to intervene at Hamilton Hall.

Given Columbia’s location in a liberal city, the rise in anti-Semitism isn’t entirely unexpected, especially with open campus access for outsiders, including those on student visas.

Yet, Mailman remains hopeful.

“I believe this change is crucial. We shouldn’t allow students to experience racism during their time at the university. This structural shift is necessary to prevent such issues, especially within places like the Columbia Library.”
