It seems that Nick Chubb’s time with the Cleveland Browns is coming to an end.
Browns General Manager Andrew Berry indicated on Friday that it’s “increasingly unlikely” the Pro Bowl running back will be back with the team for the 2025 season.
Chubb, who has been a free agent after spending seven years with the Browns, likely won’t reunite with the team after they drafted two running backs, Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson, in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Moreover, Jerome Ford, who backed up Chubb, started 18 games over the last two seasons due to injuries.
“I won’t rule out anything, but it’s probably more unlikely,” Berry mentioned on 92.3 when discussing Chubb’s future. “We have two young guys that I like, and Jerome is stepping up. It seems roles are going to reshape within the running back unit.”
“We can’t overlook someone close to our hearts like Nick,” Berry added, expressing hope that after a year from Chubb’s knee injury, he’ll make significant progress. “But in the short term, it’s unlikely that he’ll be back.”
Chubb, now 29, has missed quite a bit of time in the last two seasons due to injuries.
He endured a torn MCL and ACL during a game against the Steelers in 2023, which required him to undergo two reconstructive surgeries.
Last season, he broke his leg in December, which limited him to just eight starts, resulting in only 332 rushing yards at an average of 3.3 yards per carry.
Nonetheless, Chubb has had one of the most impressive rushing careers in Browns history. He ranks third with 6,843 career rushing yards and has scored 51 touchdowns.
As he turns 30 this December, Chubb still has the potential to continue his career elsewhere if he secures a new team before training camp starts in July.
