Ukraine war update: US embassy in Kyiv warns of possible major air strike

A warning has been issued for Kiev ahead of a significant visit by leaders from Britain, France, Germany, and Poland. On day 1,171 of the conflict, Trump declared, “We’ve finished this stupid war.”

US President Donald Trump remarked on Friday that both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should “end this war.” Ukraine is aiming for a 30-day ceasefire. While preparing for a trip to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, Trump was asked about his message to Putin after the US embassy in Kiev advised of “potentially important” air attacks on the horizon. Trump responded, “I have a message to both parties. This war is over,” referring to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, labeling it as “this stupid war.”

Ukrainian forces made additional attempts to breach the Russian border in the Kursk and Belgorod regions. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported on Friday that Putin had hosted world leaders during major military parades in Moscow. They claimed the attack coincided with a three-day ceasefire declared from May 8th to 10th, marking the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory in World War II.

Ukraine criticized the ceasefire, calling it a “farce,” and documented the ongoing toll of the armed conflict on Friday.

Leaders from Britain, France, Germany, and Poland are set to visit Kiev on Saturday for a landmark meeting with Ukraine. This visit comes amid US warnings of significant intelligence reports concerning an imminent air attack on Ukraine.

Ignoring warnings from EU officials, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who leans towards Moscow, met with Putin, becoming the only EU leader present at the May military parade in the Kremlin, amidst the ongoing war with Ukraine.

Ukrainian officials stated they had thwarted a Hungarian espionage effort operating within their territory, alleging that Budapest was gathering sensitive military information with potential invasions of western Ukraine in mind.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un described North Korea’s involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict as justified, perceiving it as an exercise of sovereignty to defend a “brother state,” according to state media KCNA on Saturday. He emphasized that any military provocation against Russia would meet with a decisive military response.
