Recently, it came to light that over 150 dogs were crammed into a small, deserted house in a Utah storage facility, alongside an aging water reservoir.
The homeowner, 73-year-old Miguel Salgado Vargas, was absent during last month’s police operation, but body cam footage captured by Ogden police reveals a chaotic scene filled with waste and a few cats scattered throughout the filthy interior.
Officers were greeted by a cacophony of barking and howling as they approached the front door.
Once inside, they encountered a nightmarish environment, with small dogs packed into cardboard boxes.
The dust and repelling odor caused discomfort, leading officers to don gas masks as they navigated through the unpleasant surroundings.
The Ogden Police Department successfully rescued 156 animals from this distressing situation, transferring them to a nearby animal shelter.
Salgado-Vargas is now facing 637 misdemeanor charges, which range from animal cruelty to violations regarding unlicensed animals and kennels, according to reports. Fortunately, many animals are in good health, and the Weber County animal shelters have received generous community support to aid in their care.
