Yankees dominate A’s with strong performances from Will Warren and Jasson Dominguez

WEST SACRAMENTO, CA

A couple of promising Yankees prospects at a minor league ballpark showcased talent reminiscent of a major league performance, both now and looking ahead.

Will Warren and Jasson Dominguez turned in standout games, furthering the Yankees’ future aspirations for 2030.

Warren delivered a remarkable outing, pitching 7⅓ innings, while Dominguez enjoyed a night to remember, hitting two home runs and contributing to a commanding 10-2 win in front of a sold-out crowd of 12,049 at Sutter Health Park, home to the team.

Warren’s longest outing to date saw him allowing just four hits and one run, managing to escape several tough situations. This performance marked a bright spot in what has been a challenging season for the Yankees.

Interestingly, you could say one of Dominguez’s homers was hit with a left-handed bat in the third inning, the other in the seventh, rounding off a night with 7 RBIs.

For Warren, this outing stitched together the promise he has shown as a developing starter. Following this game, he managed to reduce his ERA from 5.65 to 4.75, showcasing a glimmer of hope not seen much this season.

He faced difficulties at the start of the campaign, as the Yankees were short on pitching options.

Carlos Carrasco’s recent DFA may signal mounting pressure on the club, emphasizing the need for reliable production from the rotation.

Warren’s solid performance, particularly against seven batters, demonstrated his command throughout the game until he allowed an eighth hit.

Everything seemed to click for the former top prospects, with Warren’s arsenal showing variety and effectiveness across fastballs, sweepers, changeups, and curveballs.

The Yankees, now at 22-16, bounced back from three consecutive losses, fueled by the efforts of Warren and Dominguez during their six-game road trip.

In a match where Paul Goldschmidt hit a solo homer, Dominguez hit back-to-back home runs, the first off a changeup that he drove into the bullpen in center-right field.

His second home run came from a hanging curve on a pitch from Hogan Harris, extending the Yankees’ lead in the seventh inning.

Dominguez completed the best game of his young career with a notable eight-inning stretch, batting against a series of different pitches, including a 387-foot homer from Elvis Alvarado.

There was some speculation about Dominguez’s role in a crowded outfield where player rotations are crucial, particularly with Cody Bellinger in the mix, yet his performance certainly made a statement.

The Yankees had a productive night offensively, tallying 10 runs, with 14 runners crossing home plate.

On the other hand, the Oakland A’s struggled to produce any significant hits against Warren.

They didn’t reach base until the fourth inning, managing a walk and a single, but Warren remained composed, striking out batters when it mattered.

The A’s only managed to score again in the sixth inning with a double, but Warren kept them in check, handing out another groundout to maintain control.
